House Extension

Week Four

What on earth is that great ball of fire in the sky?!

Ah.... that'll be the sun. About time. After all, we are in the middle of July!

Monday morning, and the builders start work with a vengeance, and a few more skips are filled as the rest of the footings for the house foundations are dug out.

The digger has been busy
Somewhere to hide the body....

Now the footings are done, you can see exactly how much earth the new retaining wall has got to hold back.... A few mini props and boarding are installed to support the old wall and pavement for the time being.

Holding up the pavement
Another prop in use
That's a lot of earth being held up

The plan is for the readymix lorry to arrive, and the blockwork to begin before the end of the week.

Fingers crossed!

More rain follows.... I'm beginning to wonder if the schedule is slipping. The builders spend their time removing a few more bricks from the outer skin of the wall that will eventually be removed so they can re-use them on the new front and rear elevations.

More bricks go missing....

A break in the rain, and the concrete mixer arrives...... cue a frenzy of action, with shovels everywhere as the builders finally get the concrete foundations in place.

In goes the concrete....
Looks easy to do, but I doubt it is!
Taking shape?
